My Saturday at home in Melbourne Australia

Firstly forgive moi, my muse made me rest a bit and I took a step back from writing the last few days. However (for better or worse) she has returned and I few things to share, but to save your sanity of having to read a post that is 4 pages long I shall post a few smaller ones.

It is Saturday the 25th. The time now is 4:37pm. Mr. S is having a ‘cat-nap’ upstairs on the couch after doing some reading. I was up early, (well 8am) as I had some ‘chores’ to do. One was a medical appointment the other a little bit of housework.

I have now finished two loads of Β washing ( yay you I hear you cry) and have hung(unceremoniously draped) everything on the ‘clothes horse’ to dry, as it’s cold and damp outside and it will be days (if not weeks) okay possibly months, before the sun peeks through again. I hate the cold (think you may already be aware of this) and dislike my house looking like a ‘laundry’ Β with washing hanging everywhere, but it is what it is, so I shall stop my moaning.

This morning I had an Ultrasound on my throat, well thyroid, I get this checked every couple of years as apparently I have some ‘nodules’ (quite an unpleasant sounding word really). I have copied the below information if no one has heard of this condition. Am I worried? Yes I am a little, my first scan in 2010 was clear, I will know the results of this one next Tuesday.

Thyroid Nodules Overview
The main function of the thyroid gland in the neck is to make thyroid hormone, which is essential for normal growth and metabolism. Nodules are simply lumps which are either solid or fluid-filled. Autopsy studies have revealed that up to 50% of all adults die carrying at least one thyroid nodule. These people may or may not have been aware of the presence of their thyroid nodules.Thyroid nodules are found more commonly as people age. Most thyroid nodules are benign and not cancerous.Only 5% of all thyroid nodules will be discovered to be thyroid cancer.Finding cancer in a thyroid nodule is more likely in a person younger than age 30 or older than age 60 years. However, it is important to remember that only a small percentage of people with thyroid cancer die as a result of their thyroid cancer.

Now for something a little lighter…

Here is a pic of the office/study (I should have tied the papers up first) where I type my blogs and now and then stare out of the window for inspiration.

You can now picture me sitting here can’t you? You are excited by that aren’t you? Aren’t you?

2013-05-25 14.36.41

Where do you sit to blog? Does the room where you type (if you have a mains computer) give you inspiration? What do you stare at when your fingers aren’t hitting the keyboards and your muse let’s you rest for a moment?

Post a pic – or describe if you want to? *nods* would like to know, so then when I read your posts, I can visualise you there (in a non stalking way) that is. Β πŸ™‚

  1. Yes, quite exciting actually. I sit at my desk, but not just any desk oh no. It’s a one of a kind. It’s all natural wood (yes as opposed to the aritificial kind). I had intended to paint it pink but the natural grain is amazing so I have left it as it is. Now what makes this desk so specail is that is half a circle. And from the moment I saw it the voice inside my head said, you will write your books here. ……

    • πŸ™‚ We did have a natural wood desk but it was huge and took up so much of the room, so Mr. S’s desk was brought in, but it does the job. Oh nooo phew no painting natural wood pink!! Half circle, that does sound interesting and I think that voice in your head was right. I must admit I have not seen a half circle desk – thank you for sharing now I have my visual. xx

  2. I also have thyroid nodules. Have to have another scan next week to check them.
Try not to worry too much (I found the info you posted reassuring.) Truth is we ALL probably have quite a few odd nodules and cysts and all kinds of completely harmless benign funny bits inside us that we don’t even know about until they start poking and prodding and scanning.
Your desk is so neat…. I have a laptop, so I usually write on that…wherever. πŸ™‚

  3. Hello Mumsy!! I write on my desk upstairs. It’s small but very pretty, it’s french Provincial and my chair is just beautiful. I’m surrounded by Angels and Fairies. Plus clowns all behind me. I love the room and will miss it when I move out. Still I will have all my things, only some place out, right? πŸ™‚ Hugs Paula xxxx

  4. I have my laptop on a table. I have so much information on it, that I have an external 1TB hard drive attached, so although it is a laptop, it has to stay where it is, or stop a lot of the programs that access the external. My internal DVD drive has also stopped working, so I have an external one of those as well.

  5. *hugs* … I do not know anything about the thyroid thing really. It is always worrisome when the ‘C’ word gets tossed around …but I am hoping that is just it…a word in an internet search at the moment. *hugs you just the same because I want to*

As for your blog typing setting….I like that you can look out the window. Well, at night it would be dark … but in the morns…the outside would be a nice thing…letting sunlight in. (Even in the winter’s dreary rain … it can be sort of beautiful for you I hope.)

By the way, to me your desk looks super tidy and your computer screen looks….OHMYGOD! Is that porn on there?!?!?!?

*smirkles* ….sorry, I was being a bit goofy.

My setting … I have a desk that actually looks AT my kitchen lol. I am often cooking something or baking something or whatever. I can watch what is going on as I type. The desk I am on is an old old heavy ugly thing. It is an old boxy school teacher’s desk that I picked up at a yard sale so very long ago (because it was cheap lol). I sanded it and repainted it brown … but is it still an ugly beast of a thing.

    • 1 – Thank you and I hope that I have nodules only – no matter how ghastly the word sounds. {{Hugs}} you back because I want too.
      2. Yes though I have a back of a house and a fence, I also have two trees, and birds sit on the fence and some even mate on said fence…tad distracting. πŸ™‚
      3. Porn? how very DARE you πŸ˜‰ no they were photos uploaded of the desk you ninny πŸ™‚ x I adore your goofy.
      4. An ugly beast of a thing can still produce magnificent results – how nice to look at your kitchen in the ‘hub’ of the house- the kitchen the most friendly and family orientated room. Thank you for sharing your desk with me πŸ™‚ xx

  6. I grew nodules on my thyroid too and eventually had a thyroidectomy 3+ years ago. I found out through my labs that I also had Hashimoto disease. Keep me posted on your issues. I’m happy to share my experiences with you. Secondly, I love your space where your creative spirit works. I hope you see the sun shining through your window very soon. Hugs!

    • I haven’t googled Hashimoto disease yet – but I shall. I shall speak to you more, I will wait to see what the results say on Tuesday. I assume you have to be on tablets now not having a thyroid, for the rest of your life? Thank you sweetness, winter is nearly upon us so unless we have some winter sun, it may be some time before it shines through – maybe I need to paint a big golden sun on it just to cheer my winter blues. {{Hugs}} to you lovely. xx

      • I hope you received good results. I am on thyroid meds for the rest of my life. They have to be adjusted from time to time, but other than that it really isn’t a problem. Let me know if I can share any of my experiences with you.

      • Hello sweet, results not back yet – I think they are due ‘again’ today, so have to wait & see what happens. I have read about so many side effects of being on the medication, but take what we read ‘with a grain if salt’ as they say. Thank you I shall if needed xx

  7. I’ve never had my thyroid checked and now think I probably should 😯 Best of luck with yours and I hope it’s all okay.

I write wherever my laptop takes me πŸ™‚ Have a happy rest of Sunday afternoon πŸ˜€

    • Hmm maybe, I only got it checked because people commented that the bottom of my throat looked swollen (it has for years) I thought yep that’s just how I’m built, but it’s those little nodules making it so. I need a laptop so I can be anywhere and write at anytime..hmmm I dream. Thank you sweet it was an interesting afternoon, doing a short post about it shortly πŸ™‚ Hope you had a lovely weekend. xx

  8. when i write, i use my laptop and sit in a very comfy place, wherever i may find myself, feet up, and typing away, laughing to myself out loud at times, somewhat like a loon, but happy to be writing ). many times, if an idea has not popped into my stream of consciousness brain, i pull my writing idea from my beautiful old cigar box, filled with jottings/rants/memories on scraps of paper. you, on the other hand look very organized and have a nice view out the window. this sets the stage for you to relax and get into writing mode. isn’t it interesting how each writer has their place and their style and it works for them?

    • I simply love the way you have ideas and memories to call upon tucked away in a cigar box – how old worlde’ and romantic! I really need to get a laptop as I would prefer to snuggle up on a couch and write than sit in a study with a desk – Thank you for sharing your writing space Beth, I now have a picture of you laughing as you hit the keys πŸ™‚ x

  9. I had my thyroid cancer scare last year in March. They found a 4cm long nodule during a thyroid ultrasound and after an FNA (Fine Needle Aspiration) biopsy which came back suspicious they suggested a thyroidectomy (removal of the thyroid). I had the surgery, the biopsy came back clean (thank God) and I am on the thyroid pill now (for life).
On another note, I sit at our living room table with my laptop. xxx

    • I have read about the FNA – do they hurt? I am so amazed that there are so many of my friends that have thyroid issues – really bizarre. Thank heaven the biopsy can make benign. What side effects do you have from having to take the thyorid pill – email if you don’t wish to share with the world πŸ™‚ Grrr everyone has a laptop πŸ™‚ That’s it Mr. S – Christmas present! Thanks for reading sweet. xx

  10. Oh Mumsy, why did I not see this post. Did you hear back from this? Please let me know …
I have had an FNA on my right breast and have had many procedures to drain nodules etc. they put in a titanium clip to monitor the growth of a nodule and that insertion was more painful than any mammogram I have done. I have not had any thyroid issues so far, but I’m not counting it out πŸ™‚

I write in my study on my laptop( btw, I am the opposite, I rather like your computer… Sooo want a Mac) I have my inspiration chalk board in front of me, of all the places I have traveled and want to travel, photos of my family, my book cases filled with my books and a view of my front yard with its roses. If I run short of creativity.. I sit on my chair and read.
