A time

never the same
shadows in the day
colours are lost
sleepless nights
the loss of souls
who slip away
coming to terms
death displayed
tears are shed
smiles are raised
words are read
spirits lifted
more ways than one
this is when
I know
my job was done

  1. nice cascade of emotion to start this…
did you mean when instead of then? the then works in a different way as if attaching it to another time and place, but was wondering…and ha…great pic to go with this…that conversation bears truth

  2. I enjoyed the progression of this poem from the negative emotions….then through them….then ending with spirits being lifted. So often this is the way things work in life — the downs before the ups, the ups before the downs.

  3. This is the first of your poems that I have read and I have to say that I wasn’t disappointed. I loved the way that it started with blunt emotions and then built to the crescendo at the end. Thank you for sharing it – and I love the image as well. 🙂

  4. Dearest Mum…
From your previous post I gather that you were part of a memorial service
and it seems to carry over to today’s post. I’m sure you were STELLOR!!!
Your post was quite creative and heartfelt.
    Loved your 55
Thanks for playing and sharing, and thanks for visiting. You are welcome to play ANY time
    Have a Kick Ass Week-End

    • Hi G-Man, yes I am a Funeral Celebrant and conducted a Service yesterday ~ thank you for reading and your cool comments and I am sure I shall play over there more in the future! I will have a kick-ass and I hope you do to! 🙂

    • BR when I think about working in an office and the drudgery of it all~ I can’t ever imagine leading that life again ~ this I know when I have completed a Service I have made others feel better and myself – thanks for reading.

  5. yes, and your job is an amazingly powerful one. have your ever read the book thief? it is told from the point of view of death as a character and not as dark as it sounds, i thought it was beautiful and one of my favorite books ever )

  6. Or looked at it another way!
Life can be a torment , Life can be a pain
Life can be a struggle and a mean and spiteful game.
Life can be lonely life can be awfully sad
Compared to which the blessed relief of death does not seem so bad!
