Christmas countdown

Less than 7 weeks till Christmas.
There I said it.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news..
Are you organised?

Have you
started dragging your bottom around the shops for those must grab bargains, or are you already that organised that you have been purchasing since last year when the sales started?
do you know where you are having your Christmas Day lunch or dinner, if not in a home, have you booked the venue?
have you decided what egg nog recipe you are using?
have you started scouring recipe books for ideas(come on live a little) or sticking to old favourites?
have you bought any ingredients in preparation for the big day?
have you dragged out and dusted off the plastic Christmas tree and checked all the branches are in tact?
have you organised the buying of your real tree?
have you checked your decorations to make sure the ‘hangy up thingies’ are not broken?
have you gone to your local liquor store and purchased the assortment of drinks required from bottom to top shelf for the relatives who like a wee drop?
have you looked at your tablecloths to ensure there are no last year wine stains?
have you purchased and frozen all the boxes of extra custard you will need, knowing the supermarkets will have run out?
have you checked your Christmas music, knowing the 1980’s chipmunk CD just doesnt cut it any more?
have you pulled out your tangled Christmas lights making sure all bulbs work?
have you bought your Bon bons with the paper hats, jokes and must have plastic toys inside?
have you bought your Christmas candles?
have you bought your Christmas napkins/serviettes?
have you got enough left over Christmas wrapping that’s not crinkled in the back of your cupboard and need more?
have you enough sticky tape to wrap your presents?
have you enough Christmas present tags to put on your presents?
have you purchased your Christmas earrings, ties, t shirts from the $2.00 shop?
have you bought your Christmas cards ready to send out?
have you started your Christmas pudding?
have you written your Christmas wish list?
and most importantly….
have you bought your car antlers?

No? then best hop to it, the clock is ticking.

  1. In a word NO ! My style is “the few days before grab staying up all Christmas Eve wrapping” thing . 24 hour Kmart comes in handy at 2am What can I say, keeps the family guessing including me ๐ŸŽ…๐ŸŽ

  2. Thanks for the reminder Jenny. I do have a philosophical issue with antlers on cars, to me they appear very unchristmas like you are giving Christmas the finger.
I may bring back some very interesting cards I have seen in the shops here in Tokyo.

  3. No my lovely, I haven’t got a start yet, I suppose I should, but I don’t want to because then I begin to think of how quickly the year’s gone by. I like what Santa is doing.
Typically though, Christmas makes me very happy and I am eyeing a few new ornaments – I buy a few every year for the girls to hang on the tree.
I’m still trying to figure out what to make for Thanksgiving dessert at my dear friend’s parents house – I don’t like traditional pumpkin pie or mousse or cake.. Ooooh I best get a move on then – it’s in 2 weeks.

    • I’m the same hun, I do the last minute panick buying and assembling. Santa has the easy life over here it seems! CHRISTMAS stresses me out until the day, then I’m ok..usually ๐Ÿ˜€ at least we don’t have thanksgiving to worry about, good luck with your dessert! Cheesecake? lol xxx

  4. Some homes over here in KL are already decked out in all the Xmas decor and cheer. How way in advance we do prepare these days. But then again, time flies so amazingly quickly these days too! I love the Christmas season way too much. Wish every day was Christmas! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Hello and thank you for popping over. I tried to follow you, but it didn’t work with the email link ๐Ÿ˜ž yes the shops have the decorations starting over here and the Christmas carols being sung whilst you walk around. I wouldn’t mind every day being Christmas, it’s the lead up to it that kills me ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

      • Hi Jen,
Thanks for trying to follow my blog. It can only be done via email. I don’t actually use WordPress server. It’s a self hosted site but using WordPress’s framework. Hope that clarifies and you are not obligated to follow. ๐Ÿ™‚
Yes, I can just imagine the stress and madness leading up to Xmas!
Believe it or not, I miss the cold wintery winds, snow and egg nogs! We don’t have any of those in KL.
        ;p

      • Hi hun, yes I applied through the email system , I’ll try again and see what happens. Oh I would never miss the cold, I hate it, but then again as I’m getting older the heat gets to me more. I can’t win ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. After many years of also being responsible for choirs and Christmas performances, I’ve totally stepped off the Christmas treadmill for a few years. I’ll start easing back next year, but I know I will only bring back a few of our most memorable traditions. But it will be nice to celebrate the holidays with my family again, just not with all the mayhem. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • You sound like you needed a rest from it all too Deborah and I don’t blame you. Celebrating with the family is what makes the day, though that at times can cause much mayhem ๐Ÿ˜ƒ thanks for reading and commenting, appreciated.

  6. Lots to happen before December 25! Can’t think Christmas until after big bro’s birthday on December 1. That’s how it always was and will continue. Prep starts Christmas Week!!!

  7. My favorite song is “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas,” by Bing Crosby and close second, “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire.” I love the music, the atmosphere of hurry and scurry in the shops, the expectant faces on children and sweet babies bundled in little blankets in church plays with Baby Jesus in mind. Sweet thoughts and we will get it all done, what we don’t accomplish, Jen, we will ‘let it go!’ smiles, hugs and kisses. Oh, I could use an eggnog or a hot toddy! smiles!

  8. LOL! I’m usually finished with my shopping by the end of November. I have all of my shopping done for my one daughter, but nothing finished for anyone else. My husband and I usually do a special date or daytrip rather than exchange gifts. My husband bought a new tree yesterday, as he wanted a tall, skinny one to take up less space. We’re not going gift crazy this year. ๐Ÿ™‚
