HAPPY NEW YEAR

image

Wishing you all, your families and your loved ones a bright, happy and most of all a healthy 2017.

I’m saying goodbye to 2016 – you weren’t the best of years for so many.

Don’t know what’s in store for this year, but I will cross the bridges when I get to them.

THANK YOU all for your love, support, following and friendships, they mean the world to me.

Steps

Ride a white horse
Between the blackened coals
Who shies from burning fires
Strength to ride alone
Hooves that strike split cobblestones
That hit the charcoaled walls
Ride a white horse
With a mane full and long
Whose scared of sudden noises
Calmed only by your voice
Into a sky that gives no light
Let thoughts spear through the dark
For they are quick to wander
In surrounds cloudless and grey
Ride the white horse proudly
When blackened rain begins to fall
For she’s your hope to freedom
Your chance to get away

I’m not sure where this came from, or why.

Unworthy

It’s easy to fall through the cracks
Unwanted unloved
Holding on
When others disown
The twists and turns
Within their heads
Feeling their pain
Their wish to leave
This earthly coil
Not from age or illness
Sight unseen
It’s in the box
The one that no one
Dares to open the lid
For lack of understanding
It’s opened only by the brave
Who have the strength to ground them
Steer them on the path
To feeling whole again

How simple for some to walk away
but….
Be a parent
Your resolve is firm
For they are your blood
and…..
You hear them silently scream
Even while they sleep

Forest

image

Stitches of coloured thread
Shielded our bones from the cold
Faces chilled as needles
From unbending pines

The cries of wolves are distant
Paws soft on dampened moss
Scavenging amongst the timber
Of the forest’s sodden earth

We are safe in glow of embers
Protected from the darkness
Writing names across the stars
Our fingers touch and cross

We are encased within a tunnel
Of our love and thoughts
Pushing back the outside world
Here, deep amidst the forest.

Run

As she ran dust red kicks behind
Heels of leather boots
Along the path below the mountains
Stripped of foliage sunset fell
Settling on layered rust flat tops barren

A ruler against the clouds
In her head she hears drums
Running wide eyed
Heart coursing blood through veins
And she steps sure footed

Jumping rocks in her way
The sun beat down
Without faltering
Not turning back
She ran
Spiraling into herself
Until she couldn’t run
She couldn’t breathe
She didn’t wake

Night

image

What occurs when night takes it’s stranghold on the world
In the early hours as rain is constant unrelenting
As coldness forms a barrier on once a lightened day
How many are awake I ponder as sleep evades
Are they warm and comforted under cotton sheets
Or lie on concrete with cardboard to protect
Are their mothers waking to feed their young
Animals huddle amongst barren trees
Who dies tonight who lives who cries as new life enters
I stand listening as it hits the perspex
The outside light shines from the house next door
And the rain falls in patterns heavier at times
No reasoning clouds are joined as one
I drink warm cocoa knowing others are cold
Not asleep yet not fully awake as the hour clicks to morning
Rain I hear you yet I cannot see you only if I look towards the light
You drown the earth giving it sustenance
The drain pipes echo as you cascade down
Many thoughts as sleep evades I listen
And wait for a new day to arrive

String lines

I am held together with
S
T
R
I
N
G
S
Strings of empathy
For those that hold my heart
Held to parents
Bound to children
One apron, one not
To those I say goodbye to
My work strings entwined with family
Just the thickness varies
That is all
For animals
It remains the same

When I can I give of me
S
T
R
I
N
G
S
I release them to the length I want
Depending on the moment
Yet there are days of knots
When I cannot give
I cannot try
I cannot unwind nor stretch further
For I am human
now
always
and humans have limitations

And the Cattails sway

The prequel to Down By The River

She sat side saddle on the wooden stool
Calf length cowboy boots
Ragged denim cut offs
White T shirt
Outlining her curves
Elbow resting on the bar
Glass three quarters full
Five rings marked the wood around it
Circles much like life
The chair legs scraped beside her
Jeans brushed against her thigh

She blinked slowly
Her expression ambivalent
Taking in his beauty
He smiled, teeth white as snow
A conversation started
Her speech slurred
She giggled as the words fell out
His hand touched hers
She didn’t flinch
Throwing back the last drop of liquid

They walked out
Her foot slipped on its side
He grabbed her upper arm as support and
She leaned into his strength
No one knew her there
A bar the back of no where
No one knew her name
Her head spun as the air hit

She sat next to him
The leather hot under her legs
Fumbling for the radio
Once more their fingers touched
Reassuring, calm telling her to relax
“We can cool off in the river”
She smiled so innocently
Closing her eyes listening toΒ the music
Till the drunken sleep overtook
Thinking only of his eyes
His eyes of deepest green
