It is what it is

the chapters of her life
read like a book
the page will be turned
the sentences read
paragraphs unfurl
and life at times will halt
as the full stop that she stares
at, when the sentence ends
a comma, gives time to ponder
semi colon her world; her life
she’ll ask if she’ll get through

the cover opens, held in her hands
she begins, unknowing what
paths will be taken
indeed what will be learnt
the synopsis preamble of
what may lie ahead

and will the ending matter
this life is hers she owns
she learns, make errors
two steps back – one forward
she will tread, uncovering
her story will be told
regardless of the words
and perhaps some chapters in
is where she will see
this is the book that had to be

Forgive me those who read, I haven’t written for a few days, I’m quite exhausted at the moment. This probably doesn’t make much sense, but I wrote it, because it was in my head tonight.

Turn the page and start again

One foot in front of the other

Our journey unknown as we tread

like reading a novel, no sense of

beginning or middle or end, so we step

cautiously on this path that lays ahead

~~~~~~~~~~~
memories of yellowed pages in a book once read
our lives were once like that but now we voice
farewell to what was frayed and erstwhile
to corners that curled and smelt of damp
beginning a new chapter we rejoice
~~~~~~~~~~

goose pumps explode upon paled skin

unknowing what is down this path

or what our lives will bring

Excitement, gut in knots, flushed cheeks

accepting, learning, discovering

~~~~~~~~~~
our own story we now embark upon
treading with inspired steps
the discarded pages of books all worn
replaced with crisp untouched experience
~~~~~~~~~~~

one foot in front of the other

with eagerness to discover

we say goodbye to previous loves

and turn the new pages together

This book was obviously written for women and mothers but is such a touching story that men will enjoy it as well. A well prepared and formatted EPUB.
4.0 out of 5 stars The Empty Nest, September 20, 2012
From the cradle to the empty nest. I passed through that journey myself so I understand the emotional roller coaster ride that this author takes you through. I think all daughters and daughters-in-law should read it – O, yes the boys too. I am the mother of two boys! There are tears and laughter, joys and sorrows in this very honest tale and it helps us to understand how we can support each other as mothers as we go through life together. Shirley Chalmers
Shirley is one the blogs that I follow – so thank you Shirley 🙂

Despite not having any children, I really enjoyed this book. It was funny, light and easy to relate to. Being one of 3 daughters, it has helped put some things in perspective and understand why my mum does/says the things she does! Will definitely be recommending this to all the mums I know!
