Drugs

I have a drug inside me

coursing through my veins
not a little coloured pill

a drug
not herbal or manufactured
yet makes my skin glow
relieves my aches and pains

a drug
that makes me
euphoric intoxicated
not held within a glass

a drug
that relaxes and calms
that is not injected or smoked

a drug
that isn’t prescription
that gives me a high and
brings me comfort

a drug
not administered
intravenously yet supplies
energy and sustenance

a drug
that helps me sleep
peacefully through the night
which isn’t a sedative

a drug
that steadies my moods
keeps me on track
that isn’t a vitamin

a drug
that helps when my head pounds
which isn’t an aspirin

a drug
that stimulates
which isn’t a white powder

a drug inside me
coursing through my veins

a drug simply intoxicating

that drug is labelled YOU

Tanka – Japanese – Comfort in the Grass

I am continuing my learning experience with a Tanka (similar to a Haiku).

In English, the tanka is usually written as five short lines. Tanka poems are written about nature, seasons, love, sadness and other strong emotions. This form of poetry dates back almost 1200 years ago.

  • Traditionally in Japanese, the tanka is five groups of sounds, each of 5 or 7 sound units. The first and third units have 5 sound units (as in a haiku), while the other units have 7 sound units. 31 syllables in total.  This can be represented by: 5-7-5-7-7.

Grass beneath bare feet
soft spongy comforting floor
endorphins released
breathless running our lips met
kissed the grass smiled at the sun

Poem to my Mr S…

The sun shone down on the earth & warmed me complete

I waited in the grass, I lay & watched the clouds

The branches of the trees swaying in the subtle breeze

I was alone, waiting there were no crowds

Simple day, anticipation, music filled my head

Lyrics bouncing, eyes closed, in my head I’m swaying

Happiness spreading from tip to toe

This is heaven on earth, where I’m staying

I smile inside I think of you

How you lighten my days & nights

Your love, your laughter, your smile

So  heart warming tender & bright

I wait, I feel the grass around me

I run my hands through its blades

I think of you again and again

My thoughts of you shall not fade

You have brought me joy & never sorrow

You are my rock, my strength, my world

The sun is warm, I wait

The thoughts in my head of you swirl

I’m at peace & happy, the breeze is warm

I’m content & think of us as being two

But really we are one you & I

I wait… I smile… I love you
