What makes us? (Prose)

no tears in the writer

The writer has invited you
to read their words
to be privy to their inner thoughts
What they perceive to be ~
the essence of their soul
the antidote for how they feel
at any given moment

How do you envisage them
someone with a life
much the same as yours
A wife daydreaming by the stove
her words cooking in the pot
a teacher scribbling on a
blackboard, only to think of a poem

Do they sit at traffic lights
with words tumbling through
their heads ~ grasping for a scrap of paper
battling to find a pen, so they won’t
leave the words behind
For it’s in these precious moments
that they must write them down
or commit to memory
hoping later they’ll be found

Writers can be complicated
each one so different from the next
whilst one is happy with what they write
you’ll find the other quite perplexed
To you the reader you have the chance
to peer into their heart, their soul
their experiences in life

You will see pain, tears and suffering
love and happiness,  Mood swings
high to low from one day to the next
for they are emotional creatures
whose words reflect what they feel
and a roller-coaster ride is yours
should you care to read

So bear all this in mind
as you absorb what they
have written, understand their love
of writing at times needs to be forgiven
it’s a desire, a want, a lust
with a thirst that’s never quenched
but if by chance, it’s touched your heart
in the tiniest of ways
or brought some strong emotion forth
then you’ll have truly made their day

Trifecta Week Sixty-Six What have you done?

Trifecta: Week Sixty-Six

Here I am again with my submission from the brilliant Trifecta Team. The word is DOCTOR (noun).

a : material added (as to food) to produce a desired effect  b : a blade (as of metal) for spreading a coating or scraping a surface

I am running with 3 (a). The response must be between 33 and 333 words.

What have you Done

She was reminded of her child-hood
her days in the park
playing on the merry-go-round
not a carousel with painted horses
that majestically rose and fell
when she pretended she was riding
a ‘real’ horse,  but the iron circular
playground ‘swing’
she knew it by no other name
holding onto the iron, her feet running fast
beside it, trying to gain speed
so that she may then jump upon
to enjoy the ride
though sometimes giddiness happened
her head would feel light
she even thought she would be sick
this is what she felt like now
the scenery around her was blurry
her stomach did not feel well
she wanted it to stop
she wanted to get off
the merry-go-round memories
came flooding back
a hotel room the two of them
he handed her a cocktail
did he doctor it
and why?

Trifecta Week Sixty Five Challenge Exhaust

EXHAUST

Exhaustion comes to mind
when I lay my body down to rest
words invade my head from one challenge
to the next
I wonder why I do it
push my mind to the extreme
it’s not for comments, likes or such
it just comes from my within
I exhaust all possibilities
gathering my thoughts
I cannot stop this madness
to put my entry onto sites
I revel in the madness
and I push myself it’s true
so forgive me when I write
it’s what I have to do
you must know by now it’s who I am
I shall exhaust myself
for the love of writing
I can I will I can
