Layers (Prose)

406f5c1bc2527e664b5874bc77d77ec7

store bought, hand made
it matters not, results the same
many layers are we

held together
sinews/bones/blood
we are human

a bone need not break
nor blood from veins to ooze
we can crumble, our inner selves
dissolve sight unseen
before another’s eyes

everyone has a ‘something, that is hidden
your ‘something’, is as relevant to you
as my ‘something’ is to me
no greater, no less
both significant

outside words, smiled
I’m okay, I’m doin’ fine
perhaps we lie
hold back what’s buried within
ashamed/weak, tired of
transferring what we feel

I’m paper thin, I know this
I can break/my pieces can be swept
discarded to the bin
as darkened thoughts creep over
all I need’s a chance to mend

filo pastry
layers formed so delicately
store bought or hand made
the result will remain
hold to tight, crush my fragile walls
I fight to hold ~ I will break
