“You paid how much?”
The strains of Born to Be Wild blared through the open window.
“40 dollars on EBay”.
“You were so ripped off”.
“Don’t be stupid, it’s a bargain, have to work on it a bit, that’s all”.
“A little? You are dreaming, look at the rust on the thing, where’s the engine”?
“Well clearly it doesn’t have one”.
“So that means you have to peddle it?”
“What’s wrong with peddling for goodness sake, it’s good exercise, I could do with it, my legs aren’t in the best of shape”.
“Mildred honey, you’re 89 years old, how do you think your legs should look?”

Haha that is brilliant. Not sure if you know, I am doing a Photo Fiction on my new blog. Based on photos that I have taken myself – http://alastairsphotofiction.wordpress.com/
damn we crossed comments just saw this – thank you so much – glad you liked.
😀
Clever as always…xx
Hello gorgeous – thank you – what have you been up too? xx
Gardening mostly… Now got hell of a back load of writing to catch up on… Not sure where to start… Are you doing the wedding thing for Anna? I dreamed a story last night but not sure it’s suitable…xx
eek I haven’t been on FB for days – I’ll open now. Still sludging around the garden, you must post a pic or two 🙂 xx
I don’t mind doing flower pots but OH got it into his head to start moving trees… FFS !!!!
ROFLMAO oops mybad 😦 xxx
a very smart ending.
thank you for reading Nightlake appreciated.
Great dialogue, but I hope I’m not still worrying about the shape I’m in when I’m 89! Time to let it all go Mildred, enjoy a few slices if cake and hang the pounds!
Thanks for reading Trudy – Mildred will die before her vanity ever will 🙂
You brought a big smile to my face. Based on the number of older people at the gym where my parents, both in the 80’s, go and those who compete in the Senior Olympics, which my mom does and my dad used to, there are plenty of older people still staying in shape. Haven’t see anyone riding a bike like this, though. They’re mostly on more modern bikes. 🙂
janet
Hi Janet – thank you I’m glad I did. Yes, that is why we have so many elderly people living longer as they are keeping fitter than ever before. How amazing your parents were in the S.O. Poor Mildred I think that bike won’t help her flabby inner thighs much though.
It’s a stationary bike!! 🙂
janet
Yes I know, Mildred can still peddle (the ones at the gym don’t go anywhere either) 🙂
Mildred seems to live by the fact that age is just a number ! nicely done 🙂
That she does, would be grand if everyone did 🙂 thank you for reading.
gud to put mind over matter… enjoyed the story 🙂
OMG Mumsy, I LOVE IT!!!!!!
YAY!!!
Good morning precious – thank you! (and yes *nods* I haven’t replied as yet but I shall) xx
I have to add more.
IT WAS GREAT. It made me smile so much.
Really you liked it THAT much?
I’m tickled – fanks babes xx
nods I do.
haha good one!
Ta Sam and where is your btw? 😉
Dear Rambly,
Loved the easy dialogue and the picture you painted with it. Could see little Mildred with her 89 year old legs pumping away. Made me smile.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Hi Rochelle – thank you for reading I have read 44 FF’s tonight, so my eyes are now a little weary – probably as much as Mildred’s legs!
I’m still peddling to catch up 😉
🙂 it’s a task indeed good luck!
Funny, but Mildred sounds like my kind of babe! Got a number for her. We were on the same wave length this week with “Born to be Wild” too!
yeah but the charge is an arm and a leg 😉 Great song for great writers ..oh how pretentious did that sound – thanks for reading Perry – enjoyed yours too!
Kool 🙂
Ta 😉
Loved that last line! Well, the whole thing was great, but that last line made me chuckle.
🙂 Thank you waiting, ahh Mildred, I think her vanity has brought a smile to everyone. Thanks for reading.

Hahaha… I love Mildred. In fact, I want to BE Mildred and day now…! 🙂
🙂 Thanks Carolyn bless her and her wobbly thighs 😉 Thanks for reading.
2 great characters, though my sympathies lie with the older one, of course, still dreaming her dream…!
Don’t we all me hearty ..don’t we all. Thank you. 🙂
Go Mildred! Nice one.
Appreciated Sandra 🙂
The dialogue here is such fun — as is the kicker at the end. He sounds like a spry 89-year-old!
Mildred is very spry…or at least in her brain she is, her legs probably not so much – thanks for reading Zooky 🙂
Brilliant, you totally wrong-footed me with the dialogue and the last line was sooo funny! 🙂
JWD thank you – I tried to make it as males talking…good old Mildred gets ’em every time 🙂
Omg, I burst out laughing at the end 😀 at first I thought she was talking to an idealistic and over optimistic young adult like mid twenties probably her daughter. That was nicely done.
Hello welcome and thank you Camgal. I tried to leave it till the last line, I was so biting my tongue 🙂 Thank you reading and leaving a comment. 🙂
I want to be just like Mildred when I’m 89. Well written!
Glad you enjoyed Petru – thanks 🙂
Never too old to be fit and trim. I say go for it Mildred. Great story.
Kim – thank you for reading, she certainly wants to give it a shot! Glad you liked. 🙂
haha Mildred sounds awesome, i like her ^^
Thank you kz, she has a few fans it seems 😉
An 89 y.o. listening to “Born to be Wild” buying a bike on Ebay… too cool.
(great dialogue) Randy
Thanks so much Randy…she’s too cool for skool 😉
I love Mildred, she was Born to be Wild
Great story and hurray for the oldies. Still smiling.
Dee
Yep there’s still in the old girl yet! 😉 thanks Dee for your lovely comment. x
As long as you think you can age is only a collection of numbers!
Yes, if that would only stay in our heads – all would be right with the world! Thanks Joe.
Lol..Bless her heart.
My sentiments exactly – thanks for reading LV 🙂
My pleasure.
Bwahahahaha! #LoveIt… lol Mildred is keen and will probably outlive her entire family! #GetUpAndGo
